Holosun 507C X3 vs 507C X2: What Actually Changed
The 507C has been one of the most popular pistol dots on American carry guns for years, and the X3 is Holosun's 2026 update. Holosun's product page calls it "New for 2026 - Available Now." It keeps the RMR footprint, the Multi-Reticle System and the side battery tray, so it's a drop-in swap for an X2. What changes is runtime, light sensing and brightness settings. Every number below comes from Holosun's own spec pages.

Specs and list prices from Holosun's HS507C-X3-RD and HS507C-X2-RD pages, checked October 17, 2026. Street prices are usually lower; American Hunter reported the X3 at $309.99 at launch.
The differences that matter
Double the battery life
Holosun rates the X3 at up to 100,000 hours on setting 6, twice the X2's 50,000. Both already have Shake Awake and Solar Failsafe, so neither is a battery hog. But on a carry gun you'd rather not think about, doubling the rated runtime is a real improvement. Both still use a CR1632 in a side tray, so you can change the battery without pulling the optic and losing zero.
Forward-facing light sensor
The X3 adds an integrated forward-facing photodiode that adjusts reticle brightness to the light around your target. The X2's automatic mode uses its ambient light sensor. The forward sensor matters most in the classic problem case: you're standing in a dark room looking out into bright light, or the reverse. A dot that adjusts to what you're looking at is easier to see.
More night vision settings, fewer daylight ones
The X3 has 8 daylight and 4 night-vision-compatible settings. The X2 has 10 daylight and 2 NV. If you run night vision, the X3 gives you more usable dim settings. If you don't, you're unlikely to miss two of the daylight steps.
Window, size and weight
Holosun lists a slightly taller window on the X3 (0.91 x 0.67 in vs 0.91 x 0.63 in) and a different housing, which Holosun calls reinforced, at 1.55 oz vs 1.5 oz. Holosun also offers the X3 in gold, which the X2 page doesn't list.
What stays the same
The footprint, the reticle choices, the 7075-T6 housing, IP67 waterproofing, 5000G shock rating, 1 MOA clicks and ±30 MOA of travel are the same. If your slide is cut for an RMR, or you already own an RMR-footprint plate for your 507C X2, the X3 mounts the same way. Check holster fit if your holster is cut tight to the optic, since the housing shape changed.
Which one should you buy?
- Buying new for carry or duty: the X3. Twice the rated battery life and a forward light sensor, at a lower Holosun list price than the X2.
- Night vision users: the X3, for its four NV settings vs two.
- Already own an X2: keep it. It has the same reticle, footprint and toughness, and 50,000 hours is still a lot. Upgrade only if you want the forward sensor.
- On a tight budget: buy whichever one is cheaper at the counter. A discounted X2 is still one of the best-proven RMR-footprint dots made.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between the Holosun 507C X2 and X3?
- Per Holosun, the X3 doubles rated battery life to 100,000 hours, adds a forward-facing light sensor for auto brightness, and changes the brightness steps to 8 daylight and 4 night vision (vs 10 and 2). Footprint, reticle and battery are the same.
- Does the 507C X3 fit the same footprint as the X2?
- Yes. Both use the RMR footprint, so the X3 mounts on the same RMR-cut slides and plates as the X2.
- What battery does the 507C X3 use?
- A CR1632 in a side-loading tray, the same as the X2. Holosun rates it at up to 100,000 hours on setting 6.
