Holosun 407C X3 vs 507C X3: Plain Dot or Multi-Reticle?
The 407C and 507C are two of the most common RMR-footprint dots on American carry and duty pistols, and both got the X3 update for 2026. They share a housing, battery, runtime and forward-facing light sensor. The real difference is the reticle: the 407C X3 has one 2 MOA dot, and the 507C X3 adds a 32 MOA circle you can switch on. That costs about $70 more at Holosun's list price. Every number below is from Holosun's own spec tables, checked October 21, 2026.

Specs and list prices from Holosun's HS407C-X3-RD and HS507C-X3-RD product pages, checked October 21, 2026. At launch, American Hunter reported $244.99 for the 407C X3 and $309.99 for the 507C X3. Street prices are usually below Holosun's list price.
The one real difference: the reticle
The 407C X3 shows a single 2 MOA dot. That's all it does, and for many shooters that's the point. There's no reticle menu to cycle through, and a small dot covers very little of the target at distance.
The 507C X3 uses Holosun's Multi-Reticle System (MRS). You can choose the same 2 MOA dot, a 32 MOA circle, or the circle and dot together. The big circle is easier to pick up fast when you're bringing a pistol up from the holster, and it frames the target at close range. The dot alone gives you the 407C's precision. If you're new to pistol dots and still learning to find the dot on the draw, the circle-dot is the friendlier picture.
Some shooters find the circle cluttered at distance or on astigmatic eyes. The 507C X3 lets you switch it off, so you can always run it as a 407C. The reverse isn't true.
What's the same
Nearly everything else. Both use the same reinforced 7075-T6 X3 housing and the same 0.91 x 0.67 in window. Both weigh 1.55 oz and mount directly on the RMR footprint. Both run a CR1632 in a side tray that you can swap without removing the optic or losing zero. Holosun rates both at up to 100,000 hours on setting 6, with Solar Failsafe backup, Shake Awake and a lockout mode. Both use a forward-facing light sensor for auto brightness, and both have 8 daylight and 4 night-vision settings. Travel, clicks, waterproofing and shock rating are identical.
That means holster and plate compatibility is the same, too. If a holster is cut for one X3, it should fit the other, but check with your holster maker since Holosun lists the 407C X3 at 1.32 in wide and the 507C X3 at 1.31 in.
Price: is the circle worth about $70?
Holosun's site listed the red 407C X3 at $282.34 and the red 507C X3 at $352.93 on our check date, a difference of $70.59. Launch coverage reported $244.99 and $309.99, a $65 spread. Either way, the MRS costs you roughly $65 to $71. Street prices move, so compare both at your dealer. Our price change log records each price change we confirm.
Which one should you buy?
- Precision, competition or a clean picture: the 407C X3. One 2 MOA dot, and the lower price.
- Carry and home defense, or new to dots: the 507C X3. The 32 MOA circle is faster to find under stress, and you can still run it dot-only.
- Astigmatism: try both if you can. Some shooters see a crisper circle than dot, and some see the reverse. The 507C lets you test all three pictures on one optic.
- Upgrading from a 507C X2: see Holosun 507C X3 vs X2 for what changed.
