CZ Duty vs CZ P-10 C: New Modular Pistol or Proven Compact?
CZ's new DUTY is a clean-sheet striker-fired 9mm built around a serialized modular chassis, announced in October 2026. The P-10 C is CZ's most popular polymer compact and a long-time value pick. On CZ's own spec sheets, the DUTY 4.0C and the P-10 C are nearly the same size, so the choice comes down to modularity and optics mounting against price and track record.

Size: closer than you'd expect
The DUTY 4.0C and the P-10 C share a 4-inch barrel, a 7.4-inch length and a 1.3-inch width. The DUTY 4.0C is 0.1 inch taller and 1.1 ounces heavier. If you carry a P-10 C today, a DUTY 4.0C is essentially the same size on the belt. The DUTY 4.0F keeps the same slide and barrel and adds a longer grip: 5.6 inches tall and 17+1, or 19+1 with an extended base plate.
What the DUTY adds
A serialized modular chassis
The DUTY's serialized part is an internal chassis, not the grip. That means you can change the grip module and the size of the gun later without buying a new firearm. CZ launched four models (4.0C, 4.0C MS, 4.0F and 4.0F MS), and the chassis concept is what lets them share a core. The P-10 C's polymer frame is the serialized part, so changing size means a new pistol.
Direct-mount optics
The DUTY uses a direct-mount pin system for red dots, which keeps the optic lower and removes an adapter plate from the stack. The base P-10 C has no optic cut; you'd buy the P-10 C OR (from $499) for a plate-mounted red dot.
Safeties and options
The DUTY lists drop, trigger and out-of-battery safeties, with an optional ambidextrous manual safety on the MS models. The P-10 C uses a trigger safety, automatic firing pin block and trigger bar safety, without a manual safety on the base model.
What the P-10 C has going for it
Price and history. At a CZ list price from $449, the P-10 C is $280 less than the DUTY's $729 MSRP. It's been in production for years, so holsters, magazines, sights and aftermarket triggers are easy to find, and it has a long record as a reliable carry and duty gun. CZ calls it "the most popular model in the CZ P-10 family." The DUTY is brand new, and accessory support will take time.
Which one should you buy?
- Best value for carry or home defense: the P-10 C. Same size, same barrel, same capacity, and $280 cheaper.
- Red dot from day one: the DUTY, for direct mounting. Or the P-10 C OR if budget matters more than mounting height.
- Want a manual safety: a DUTY MS model.
- One pistol that can change size later: the DUTY. The modular chassis is the reason it exists.
- Holsters and parts today: the P-10 C.
- More capacity: the DUTY 4.0F, at 17+1 or 19+1.
