Ruger RXM vs Glock 19 Gen 6: The Gen 3 Clone or the New Glock?

The Ruger RXM, built with Magpul, is a compact 9mm that takes Glock-pattern parts and magazines and costs less. The Glock 19 Gen 6 is the newest version of Glock's best-known compact 9mm. Both are shipping. We put them side by side on Ruger's and Glock's own spec sheets so you can pick the right one for your belt, your budget and your parts bin.

The short version

RXM numbers are from Ruger's spec sheet for the standard 4-inch, 15-round model 19400. The PVD models share the same dimensions. Glock numbers are from Glock's U.S. technical data for the G19 Gen 6.

Size and weight

These two will carry the same way. The RXM is 0.13 in shorter. Ruger lists it at 5.31 in tall, against 5.04 in for the Glock with its magazine. Ruger doesn't say whether that height includes the magazine, so treat the gap as approximate. Weight is the same story. Ruger lists the RXM at 23.2 oz without saying how it was measured. Glock lists the G19 Gen 6 at 20.11 oz without a magazine and 22.58 oz with an empty one. In the hand, expect them to feel similar on the belt. The bigger difference is the grip shape, and that's personal.

The grip and the serialized part

This is the RXM's big idea. The serialized part isn't the frame. It's a removable stainless steel Fire Control Insert that sits inside an interchangeable Magpul Enhanced Handgun Grip. Ruger says Magpul's grip uses a 3/4-scale TSP texture, textured indexing pads, a flared magazine well, an undercut trigger guard and a beavertail for a high grip. Want a different color or size later? You swap the grip, not the gun. Guns.com reported that Ruger's CEO told investors in November 2025 that the company plans to build out the RXM family with "new grip frames, sizes, accessories, and configurations."

Glock went the other way with Gen 6 and improved the frame itself: a palm swell, a dual-texture grip, deeper slide serrations and a flat-faced trigger. On a Glock, the frame is still the serialized part.

Sights and optics

Out of the box the RXM is the better-equipped pistol. Ruger fits co-witness-height steel sights with a tritium front night sight, and the slide is cut for direct mounting of RMR, Delta Point Pro and RMSc pattern optics, so most popular dots bolt straight on without a plate. Glock lists polymer sights on the G19 Gen 6. Its new optic-ready system ships with plates, which makes mounting easier than on older MOS slides. If you plan to carry with a dot and run iron sights as backup, the RXM's co-witness tritium sight is a real point in its favor.

Parts, magazines and holsters

Here's where the two split hardest. Ruger says most major RXM components are designed for Gen 3 compatibility with off-the-shelf parts, holsters and accessories. It also says the RXM is designed to use 9mm magazines compatible with compact or larger double-stack Glock pistols, including Magpul GL9 magazines. That means decades of Gen 3 slides, barrels and accessories are in play.

Gen 6 Glocks also take Glock double-stack 9mm magazines, per Guns.com's report from Glock. But Guns.com says the slide, trigger and most internals are new, so Gen 6 aftermarket support is starting over. See our Glock Gen 6 vs Gen 5 comparison for the full parts picture. For holsters, check fitment with the holster maker either way, especially if you run a light or an optic.

Track record and politics

Glock's G19 design has decades of police, military and civilian use behind it. The RXM launched in December 2024, so its history is shorter, though Ruger has kept adding models through 2026. One more fact for freedom-minded buyers: Guns.com reported in November 2025 that Everytown and Connecticut's attorney general sent Ruger letters pressing it over the RXM, and that Ruger kept the RXM in production and planned to expand it. Choosing a sidearm that fits your hand and your budget is your right. It isn't something an activist group or an attorney general gets to decide for you.

Price and availability

Ruger's RXM models page lists standard models at $539 or $599 depending on barrel and grip configuration, and the six PVD-slide models at $579. Glock's Gen 6 G19 was reported at $745 MSRP, which puts the RXM $146 to $206 lower depending on the model you pick. Live status and the street prices we saw:

Which should you buy?

Buy the Ruger RXM if you want the most features for the money. You get a tritium night sight, a direct-mount optic cut, Magpul's grip and a serialized insert you can move between grips, plus access to the huge Gen 3 Glock parts and holster world, all for less than a Gen 6.

Buy the Glock 19 Gen 6 if you want the proven standard with Glock's newest ergonomics and its optic-ready system, and you don't mind paying more and waiting for Gen 6 aftermarket parts to catch up. If you carry a Glock 19 for work, check your agency's approved list first.

Either way, a compact, reliable 9mm on the belt of a law-abiding citizen is the Second Amendment at work. Compare more options in our new 9mm pistols of 2026, the Glock Gen 6 hub and Glock 19 Gen 6 vs Springfield Echelon 4.0FC.
