Glock 17 vs 19 vs 45 Gen 6: Which Gen 6 Should You Buy?

All three U.S. Gen 6 Glocks are 9mm, optics-ready and listed at the same $745 MSRP, so the choice comes down to size. The G19 Gen6 is the compact: shortest grip, 15 rounds. The G17 Gen6 is the full-size duty gun with the longest barrel. The G45 Gen6 pairs the G17's 17-round grip with the G19's shorter slide. Here's how they compare on Glock's own numbers.

What's the same

All three share the Gen 6 changes Glock announced on December 6, 2025: a frame with a palm swell, extended thumb rest and enlarged beavertail, the new two-texture grip, deeper slide serrations, a flat-faced Safe Action trigger and the Gen 6 optic-ready slide, which ships with optic plates. All three went on sale January 20, 2026, and Glock lists the same 26 N trigger pull for each. See Glock Gen 6: models, price and release date for the full list of changes.

What's different

Grip height and capacity

This is the biggest difference for carry. The G19 stands 5.04 inches tall with a magazine, and the G17 and G45 both stand 5.47 inches. That extra 0.43 inch of grip is what gives the G17 and G45 two more rounds (17 vs 15), and it's also the part that prints under a shirt.

Slide and barrel length

The G19 and G45 share a 4.02-inch barrel and a 6.85-inch slide. The G17's 4.49-inch barrel and 7.32-inch slide give it the longest sight radius, 6.65 inches against 6.18 inches, which helps with iron sights at distance.

Weight

The spread is small. Empty, the G19 is 20.11 oz, the G45 20.28 oz and the G17 21.16 oz. Loaded, Glock lists the G17 at 31.39 oz and the G19 at 29.10 oz, a gap of about 2.3 oz.
